Health: Support with Bereavement

There are specific staff and even quiet areas in school that support anyone in our community who has to face bereavement. Children and young people say that the following helps at these difficult times:

  • having the death acknowledged
  • being given appropriate information about what has happened and what is going to happen
  • having the chance to express their feelings and thoughts about the death
  • being helped to remember
  • taking part in opportunities to say goodbye and commemorate the person who has died
  • knowing they are not to blame for what has happened
  • meeting other children and young people who have been bereaved
Here is a fuller resource that is available in those moments when you are on your own.  The site also offers advice for adults and others close to the bereaved as it can be hard to 'know what to say' at these times.
